Ten Steps to Healthier Children

The concept of regular chiropractic care is important not only for adults but especially for children. Eight out of ten Americans will have some form of back pain, which adversely affects their lives between the ages of 35 and 55. It should be noted, however, that 1 in 10 children will have some form of back pain prior to age 10.The problem is that many of these concerns could have been avoided with more attention to important stages of growth during the early years of childhood. Children are subjected to additional stresses and strains due to improperly set up workstations and increasing demands to their bodies for sports related activities. These days children are more active and with heavy schedules they are subjected to many falls, bumps, and bruises, which left undetected can lead to various spinal deformities that can cause problems years later. We tend to watch our children fall, slip or tumble at a sports event and encourage them to “brush it off” there is a tendency to think they are young and can bounce back, but this is not always the case and catching damage early can get healing on the correct course. As with the body like any piece of equipment, it is important to maintain regular maintenance to enjoy better functioning, and correct these damages as they occur.

Many times parents do not realize how chiropractic care can help them. Parents should understand the importance of a chiropractic lifestyle in order to overcome the repeated visits to the doctor’s office and numerous nights of staying up late with a sick child. Regular chiropractic adjustments is a natural way to stay healthy and improve the immure systems resistance. The spine is linked to every part of the body and adjustments correct abnormalities in postural instability, and free blockages to nerve impulses improving vital function.

Luckily, much of the back pain in children is due to mechanical causes, which can be corrected through conservative chiropractic care. It is important to have children evaluated by a chiropractor on an annual basis. The stress and strain as well as the problems of postural instability can lead to not only back pain, by also future degenerative changes within the spine. Evaluation and gentle chiropractic correction is essential not only to relieve pain and discomfort, but also for proper spinal development.
A more natural form of healthcare for our children is possible with a little bit of information and a philosophy to move toward the concept of the body helping itself.

Here are 10 key steps towards this goal:

  1. Seek out well-qualified wellness practitioners to maintain a relationship for your health and your child.
  2. Have children evaluated right after birth for structural problems by a Chiropractor.
  3. Be a great example to you children, do not allow children to determine their own good habits.
  4. Create healthy habits for healthy lifestyle; this includes proper nutrition, sleep, exercise, relaxation, and check-ups.
  5. Get children interested in exercise, teach them to properly warm-up, stretch and cool down.
  6. Utilize a system of regular wellness evaluations (Massage, Chiropractic, Nutrition, etc.)
  7. Have children eat less processed foods, fresh vegetables and fruit, etc...
  8. Avoid drug therapies and using medications to mask the pain, not address the cause.
  9. Consider trying non-invasive procedures that customize to you like Chiropractic, Nutrition, Massage, Acupuncture, etc...
  10. Take action if your child has a considerable childhood or sports injury and have them evaluated in a chiropractic examination.
