Sagging Shoulder

10/10/2005 1:00:00 PM

A sagging shoulder is a common problem in many young teenagers who carry a heavy backpack and people who have to carry heavy cases or bags as part of their everyday job.  Instead of wearing a backpack appropriately on both shoulders, many high school and college students carry backpacks loaded with books on the same shoulder every day.  This daily pressure can create muscular changes to the shoulder and surrounding area, which creates a sagging on one side.  Proper evaluation is first required with care and exercise as outlined by your doctor of chiropractic in order to resolve the condition.  Sometimes pain may not even be a factor, but postural changes can be created due to muscular imbalances.  Those muscular imbalances may even be signs of more serious underlying spinal conditions.  Anyone who carries heavy cases or bags on a regular basis should have a postural evaluation as soon as possible.
